The Best Ways to Grow Your Blog with Facebook Groups

Since starting a blog more than a year ago, I discovered very quickly that blogging is all about community (or it should be anyways). You can’t succeed in a bubble. You need to reach out, network, communicate, collaborate, with others. I admire how some bloggers have developed best friends through the blogging community. It really opens up the doors for you personally and professionally.

One of the many ways you can get in touch with other bloggers, ask questions, promote, and collaborate is through Blogging Facebook Groups.

There are SO MANY out there.

When I first joined Blogging Facebook Groups I wanted to join as many as I could. That was my first mistake. Not all groups are created equally. Some groups are more about promotions while others focus on building a community and some are just a free-for-all. Each have their own pro’s and con’s but don’t get overwhelmed by joining and trying to keep up with them up.

The second mistake you can make when it comes to Blogging Facebook Groups is trying to take part in every promotion thread. I would spend waste hours of my time trying to keep up with these threads and they wouldn’t help my bottom line: growing my blog.

When it comes to growing your blog it’s important to spend your time on things that will give you the best benefit.

Here are the best ways Blogging Facebook Groups can help your blog

Ask Questions //

This one is kind of a no-brainer. Don’t be afraid to ask questions - literally ANY question you have. Blogging Groups are FILLED with people who are in the same boat as you. Trust me, you’re not the only one who wants to know how to get readers to sign up for your newsletter or how to make a custom email signature. Don’t be shy.

Asking for positive criticism is also a great idea in Blogging Groups. Overall members are very friendly and eager to help fellow bloggers avoid mistakes that they may have made themselves in the past.

Social Media Promotion //

Not all social media promotion threads are created equally. There are some that are great to take part in and other ones are a waste of time.

I ALWAYS take part in Pinterest threads. Pinterest is more of a search engine than a Social Media platform but I’m including it here anyways because it still has that “social” aspect to it.

There are plenty of bloggers who swear by the traffic they get from Pinterest. It’s so important that you’re active and spreading your reach on this site, so taking part in a Pinterest thread is a good idea.

Twitter Re-Tweet and Facebook Like threads are ones a take part in sparingly. It’s great to have your content promoted on other’s feeds, but if they’re followers/friends aren’t your target audience than its not beneficial to you.

For example, if I take part in a Twitter Re-Tweet thread and get others to re-tweet my beauty post but there audience is interested in home decor then they aren’t going to click on my tweet. I also don’t want to be filling up my feed with things my followers aren’t going to be interested in either. I don’t want to give them a reason to unfollow me.

What I do instead (and I encourage everyone else to do as well) is regularly share content I’m interested in and that is within my niche. It’s SO IMPORTANT that us bloggers promote each other and do it without expecting anything in return. There’s a big difference in a share that’s genuine and a share that isn’t.

Instagram likes is one I’ve been participating in more often. I used to be really lazy when it came to Instagram. I still don’t post as much as I would like because I’m horrible at taking pictures but I’ve been increasing my engagement with others A LOT. I found that there was quite a significant jump in my following and engagement the more I liked and engaged on others content (well, duh!). Since liking (or commenting) on other’s content is something I do anyways - taking part in these threads doesn’t take any extra time out of my day.

Target Your Audience //

What better place to find out what your audience wants than in a Blogging Group.

Some Blogging Groups have upwards of a 10,000 members - chances are a handful of them are your target audience. I’ve seen countless posts in Blogging Group like this: “I’m writing a blog post about becoming a minimalist and want to include a checklist. For those of you interested in trying minimalism, what things would be most important to have on a checklist?” or “Home decor bloggers, what’s your favorite budget friendly place to shop for decor?”

Seriously, take advantage of the diversity in these groups, especially when you’re just starting out.

Build Relationships //

I'll say it again - you can’t succeed in the blogging biz if you stay in your own little bubble. If you want to be successful at this you’re going to have to make some business besties.

The blogging community is FILLED to the brim with amazing, generous, genuine people. Start up some conversations and make some friends! I’ve heard from almost every blogger I follow that they’ve created lasting relationships with people through their blogging business.

I may be a little socially awkward but I’m constantly trying to put myself out there and be more chatty because I know how beneficial having these people in my life can be. I want to surround myself with people that have the same ambitions as I do - it’ll only make me more passionate.

These friendships you make can also be a business opportunity (although, I don’t recommend that’s what you base these friendships on). You can help each out with your blogging biz by sharing tips, collaborating on posts or other campaigns, and promoting each other to your readers.

I discover new groups all the time but I’ve listed a few of my favorite’s below. I don’t visit each group on a daily, or even weekly, basis.

We all have busy schedules so you shouldn't feel pressured to be commenting or liking everything in these groups. Just make sure that when you are active you're giving just as much as you're taking.

Blogging Facebook Groups are meant to help with your biz, not to overwhelm you or take up your valuable time. Join a few of them at a time, pop in and introduce yourself, read through some threads, add your input or ask questions - just have fun with it!
