Why It's Important to Take Some Off-Time

Hustling hard to achieve your goals is a great thing, but don't forget to take some time off too! Click to find out why it's important to take some time off.

Yes - I’ve been MIA for a little while.

Things have slowed down for me (or should I say, sped up?).

I’ve been taking a lot of time to reevaluate my goals and how I want to spend my time.

When I became a blogger it was because I wanted to have the ability to work from home (or wherever I wanted to). It looked so glamorous to me. I still knew it would be a lot of work (especially at first) but I thought I would really enjoying making money writing Sponsored Content for companies I loved.

Things changed.

Although blogging is still something that I love, I’m starting to rethink my options to make it part of my full-time gig.

There are a few different ways you can make money from blogging. I won’t get into that right now because it’s a heck of a lot of information (and there may only be a small percentage of you that are curious about it) but the way I see my career in terms of blogging is a lot different than when I started.

This makes me super excited and also a little stressed out.

I’ve been really bad at making goals for myself and following through with the action plans to achieve these goals. I used to just have this idea of what I wanted in my head but then never worked towards it.

Pretty lame.

Now, I’m actually working towards what I want (it only took me 30 years, ha!) and that’s a ton of work. I needed to take some time off from blogging to make sure I’m doing things right.

I also wanted to make sure my mental health was in check. Having new life goals and, basically, a new direction in life, can be a little scary and intimidating. I’ve been careful to make sure that I'm taking care of myself throughout this process.

I’m excited to share more with you about what my plans are for the future! There will be a post about this soon.

While hustling hard is an admired quality, taking some off time is essential.  If you think you might need some “off-time” here are a few reasons why it might be a good idea

To Reset Your Focus //

Like I mentioned above - goals change.

If you’re working so hard at something and becoming so busy with it, you may not even realize it’s not what you want anymore.

Take some time off to make sure it’s still what you want and what’s best for you.

To Increase Productivity //

Believe it or not, taking some time off can actually lead to more productivity when you return.

Think about how motivated you are when you first start a new project. Taking some time off can help recharge this motivation.

Changes are, if you’ve been overworking yourself lately, you haven’t been at your best. Giving yourself the time to get back to 100% will equal better work quality when you return.

To Rekindle Relationships //

Chances are, if you’ve been hustling hard, your relationships have been suffering from it.

No matter how much you love your work, your work can’t love you back. Take this off time to rekindle your relationship. Spend time together without being distracted by looming deadlines or social media updates.

To Better Your Mental Health //

We all need more self care.

I’m a big advocate that you should set aside some time for self care every week. When we get busy this is usually the first thing that gets neglected.

We gotta take better care of ourselves.

Take the time to do things that you love and that make you feel good. Surround yourself with people who support you and lift you up.

The saying goes “you can’t pour from an empty cup” and it’s so true! You can’t give to a project, a relationship, a job, a hobby, if you’re not giving to yourself first. The results would just be mediocre and nobody wants that.

Have you taken some “off-time” lately?
